Updated Regency Spencer ePattern Tiles
The 2” measurement square on the tiled ePattern that acts as a test square is cut off on the left side, making the width incorrect. I’ve uploaded the corrected ePattern to the site (so all purchased on or after October 23 are fine), but if you purchased this ePattern between 1/31/23 and 10/22/24, you’ll need an update.
Upcoming Regency Sewing Workshops!
The Fashionable Figure series continues in Maitland, Florida: Build Your Regency Wardrobe! Regency instructors Jennie Chancey and Audrey Russell return with three more workshops to help you build your Bridgerton or Jane Austen inspired wardrobe!
Snapshots from the Short Stays Workshop
Getting together with enthusiastic women who love the Regency era and excellent sewing was such a treat. In late July, my friend Audrey Russell and I put on a two-day sewing workshop to walk participants through my Regency Short Stays pattern from start to finish.
Regency Stays Workshop July 25-27!
Audrey Russell and I have been hard at work and are happy to announce that we will be giving not one, but THREE presentations in July! The main event will be a two-day, hands-on workshop to fit and sew your own Regency stays. We will also be reprising our presentation, "The Fashionable Figure: Secrets of the Regency Modiste" (with more models and garments!), on the evening before the workshop. Finally, there will be a half-day "pre-workshop" on sewing your own Regency chemise, one week prior to the main event, conducted by Audrey.
Photos from the Jane Austen Festival in Mt. Dora, Florida
This past February, I traveled down to Mt. Dora, FL, for their fantastic annual Jane Austen Festival. My lovely friend and fellow costumier, Audrey Russell, and I put on a presentation on Regency fashion the first Friday afternoon of the festival, discussing the shift in women’s (and men’s!) clothing from the 1780s into the 1790s and 1800s.
It's Pink Monday!
Everything on the site is 25% off through midnight (CST) Wednesday. This includes my online classes, which I have moved onto this site and reformatted. I hope you find lots of inspiration for future projects and enjoy the process of creating something beautiful!
A Trip Down Memory Lane
I got an email last week from someone who had run across my site while searching Pinterest for “Titanic” costumes. She stumbled upon my 1998 “‘Titanic’ Project” and clicked through, excited to see the photo diary. Alas, all but one of the photos were missing. Instead of clicking away, she took the time to email me and ask what had happened to that blog post.
Online Classes Are Moving!
I’ve had four online classes and one offline (as a downloadable PDF) for many years. Over time, I’ve been frustrated by the limitations of using another platform to host these classes, and I finally decided to move them all over to my own website once Squarespace made its Members Area feature super easy!
Hannah's Romantic Era Wedding Gown
I made my wedding dress a few years before my wedding for a baptismal dress. I used white linen and dreamed of someday wearing it for a wedding as well.
Mercy's Amazing Regency Gown Class Creations
Mercy A. enrolled in my Regency Gown class in 2022 and has just gone to town with making one gown after another—then altering the pattern to create overdresses and more. I am so proud of her work, which she shares here!
Improved ePatterns are HERE!
It has been a LONG time coming, but I’ve finally revamped all my ePatterns as gridded sheets with tile numbers and match-up lines.
Where's Jennie?
Yes, it has been a very long time since I have checked in, but I’m still here, still sewing on occasion, and still answering customer questions, running online classes, and wearing historically inspired creations as often as possible in everyday life.
Teresa's 2021 Regency and Romantic Era Dresses
Teresa shared these photos of the dresses she made from my Regency and Romantic era patterns for various events in 2021. Doesn’t everyone look splendid? What fun!
Rebecca's Plaid 1950s Wardrobe Dress
Some customers go waaaaay back in my life to the very earliest days of my pattern-making career. Rebecca is one of them. I’ve known her since I was pregnant with my second child, when she was launching Baker Lane, and we have managed to stay in touch across the years. So it is always a treat when I see an email from her in my in-box.
Laura & Michele Go Full "Emma" and "Harriet!"
I love it when long-time customers send me links to what they’ve been up to, and this one totally takes the cake. Laura and her friend, Michele, decided to recreate looks from the new “Emma” film, and WOW!! The historical eye candy is real, folks!
Podcast with Jennifer Rosbrugh!
I’ve known Jennifer from Historical Sewing for over 20 years, and I was delighted when she asked me to be a guest on her wonderful sewing podcast this month.
What is "Regencycore?" (or How I was Trendy 25 Years Too Soon 😂)
WWD contacted me a few weeks ago to talk about a new trend their editors had spotted due to the massive uptick in viewers of Regency film and television adaptations over the last year. They’d christened it “Regencycore”….
Adina's Stunning Regency Ensembles
This very talented seamstress just reached out to share what she had made with my patterns, and I was bowled over! I always cheer hardest for beginners, but I hardly think she fits that category any longer. BRAVA, Adina! This is simply spectacular work!
2021...Let's Do This!
Now that we’ve made it through the holidays and have had a chance to draw breath, I feel good about moving forward on several new projects.
November Catch-Up (2020…yeah)
