Crossover Gown Closeup

My daughter and I began volunteering at Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial on Put-in-Bay in Lake Erie this past summer. The Regency Crossover dress and stays are the first clothing projects that I've undertaken mostly on my own.The hardest part was the fitting. Apparently I have wide shoulders, so with your assistance, I made some adjustments to the bodice. I also added a drawstring inside the waistline to make it adjustable (as many Regency gowns in the Kent State Costume Museum used).I'm really pleased with my work, considering it's my first project on my own. Next I'm tackling a dress for my daughter!~ Shayna M.

This is marvelous work, Shayna! I am so impressed that you tackled the job from the underpinnings out, and that fabric for your gown is perfect! It looks just like roller-printed cotton. How lucky you are to have studied the Kent State collection, which houses a lot of gems. Great work! If you make a dress for your daughter, I know we'd all love to see it!
