Lynn's Regency Ballgown
Lynn created this ballgown and writes,
I had a lot of fun making a version of your pattern for our Playford Ball in London, Ontario last month. The royal blue fabric is rayon in a brocade pattern of flowers, but very lightweight. The cream is also rayon with a bit of a shine. The ribbon is slightly darker cream and there are two kinds of lace, a narrow edging and a wider, slightly gathered trim at the hem of the petticoat and at the neckline. I altered your pattern by cutting down the neckline (too much as it turned out!), by adding an oversleeve which is drawn up in the middle with a rosette, and by splitting the front skirt. The sleeves are slightly longer than your pattern also. The petticoat has rows of the narrow lace edging and ribbon together, and the same combination trims the sleeve edge. The rosettes are a strip of the cream fabric 2" wide folded in half lengthwise and long enough to gather and roll into the rosette. Now for next year I will make a shawl and perhaps a reticule out of the extra fabric. Thanks for a good pattern. I got the ideas for the modifications to my dress from your website, as well as from Ackerman's Plates.
Brava, Lynn!
