"Sarah Wheaton" Tam Crochet ePattern

Tam4.jpg

Inspired by Sarah Wheaton Whitting's hats in "Winter's End" (the third movie in the "Sarah, Plain and Tall"trilogy), this Tam o'Shanter is a close copy of Sarah's accurately depicted Teens/WWI era style. The "Wheaton Tam" is designed with beginners in mind, since it only uses four of the most basic stitches--half double crochet, double crochet, chain, and slip stitch. Using a pretty heathered wool in plum with gray accents, you can create a perfectly authentic, stylish accessory for your Titanic-era costumes. And this fun hat is not too ostentatious to wear while running errands or enjoying a day out with friends!Experiment with different color combinations and kinds of yarn for different seasons--it's an economical gift, too! Worked entirely in the round with an adjustable head size and a period correct wide brim, it varies enough for interest and works up quickly. Special techniques are clearly explained; skill level is Easy. Designed by Kristen Stoltzfus. Note for European and Australian customers: Some crocheting terms are different from the US. Thanks to customer Antonia L, who shared a great link to translate terms from American to British (also used in AUS): http://crochet.about.com/od/conversioncharts/a/termtranslate.htm

You can purchase these directly from Kristen on her Etsy shop now. I loved carrying them for so many years but have narrowed down what’s in my webstore to my own designs to make bookkeeping simpler.
