Melanie's Sumptuous Regency Ballgowns

melanie2.jpg

Since the very early days of being a Jane Austen fan, I have longed for the opportunity to dress up in a Regency ballgown. I had made myself some Regency day dresses, but not a ballgown... until we were invited to a Regency-themed Christmas ball! I ended up making two gowns: one for me, and one for my sister. I used your Regency gown pattern as a base, and we were able to attend the ball in style. :)For mine (the green dress) I altered it by cutting the bodice piece farther from the fold to give it a gathered front. I also raised the neckline a little. For my sister's (the red dress), I followed the instructions for darting the Regency gown bodice under the post "Modifying Your Regency Gown Bodice" on this site. It was tricky to get the length of the darts just right, but it worked out fine in the end. :)As always, the pattern was a delight to work with. I never hesitate to recommend Sense & Sensibility patterns... I love them and can't wait to make more when the opportunity arises! :) Thank you so much for making them available!~Melanie(Photos by Brandon P.)
