1780s First Communion Dress | Sense & Sensibility Patterns

Hello from Wiltshire, UK.I have sewn mostly soft furnishings for the past 10+ years, but despite this I really wanted to make my daughter's First Holy Communion dress. I first found the Portrait Dress via Pinterest and then tracked down Sense & Sensibility patterns. Reading the blog and seeing other people's creations on 'Show & Tell' encouraged me to believe that I really could make a lovely dress which would be suitable for the occasion.I really enjoyed making the dress and found sewing it a lovely way to contemplate the occasion that it would be worn for. Since I was not paying someone else, or buying off the shelf, I was able to buy some beautiful ivory silk dupion and silver embroidered silk to make the dress, sash & sleeve ruffles. It was fully-lined using an anti-static lining fabric. The veil is made from silk tulle and edged with ivory lace - I made it after watching a YouTube tutorial. It was a lovely day for our family and my daughter felt very special and beautiful in her dress.~ Kathryn O'D.

She looks positively radiant, Kathryn! I know her special day was made even more lovely by your gift of sewing. Thanks for sharing!
