Hello! I am a 15 year old girl from Oklahoma, living in Hokkaido, Japan. That’s the top island, next to Southern Siberia. :) (Side note, we average 24 feet of snow per year…it’s great fun! :P )

My favorite subject has always been History, and I always have loved old-fashioned clothing. I’m not an avid sewer yet, but an avid “designer”! :P I’m hoping to get into sewing more in the future however. ;)

My favorite things are: Books, writing, acting, horses, and music. I’m always full of ideas and dreams…and I look forward to accomplishing some of them. :P I am the oldest of 5 other siblings (1 sister and 4 younger brothers) but I hope we get more soon. :D

My favorite costume time period is Mediaeval, the Civil War, (1860′s), late Victorian and Edwardian (1880′s-1910′s). I like anything western and prairie! :)

I would like to learn more about historical clothing, and I always enjoy seeing every one else’s projects in the show and tell!

Nice meeting you!

Welcome!  Are you an exchange student, or is your whole family with you in Japan?

I’m glad you’re here on the board!  This is a really fun group of ladies, and I’m sure you will enjoy being part of the “community”!

Here’s a warm welcome from the Pacific Northwest, where we don’t even average 24 centimeters of snow a year. grin

Happy sewing!

Katrina

Thank you for your kind responses! I was happy to read them.

We have snowplows that come nearly every day, and we shovel constantly. :D Our roads are snow-packed, and we have walls of snow on each side.

I’m here with my whole family, (8 total including my parents) a dog and a rabbit. :)

Thanks again for letting me introduce myself. :)

Welcome!  I hope you enjoy your time here.

That is a lot of snow!!!  We get lots of snow, but not that much.  My boys would love to build a quinzee with all your snow. :)

Kathryn, you must be in a warmer part of Canada. :)

Here is the definition from Wiki:  Quinzee  There is also a picture there for you. :)

quinzhee or quinzee (pron.: /ˈkwɪnz/) is a shelter made by hollowing out a pile of settled snow. This is in contrast to an igloo, which is made from blocks of hard snow. The word is of Athabaskan origin.

Thank you Carol. lol We do make those but we’ve either called them an igloo (even without the blocks) or a hut.  You learn something new every day!
