Hi everyone!

While I’m waiting for my old status to be updated, I figured I would post here and “reintroduce” myself since it’s been a while since I’ve been here anyway!  My username is the same as on the old boards – kelerr – so it shouldn’t be too confusing!

I’m Kelly and, among other things, I mostly sew for my work, where officially I teach English but on the side do the costumes for our annual musical!  However, I’ve been visiting Sense & Sensibility for over ten years now (that’s insanely hard to believe!!), initially because of Mrs. Chancey’s “Titanic Project” (I wanted a Titanic dress SO badly when I was in high school!).  It was the Sense & Sensiblility Regency dress pattern that I used to teach myself to sew (well, I knew the basics, but I had never used a pattern before), and ever since then I was hooked – to both historical (mostly the 1950’s) and modern sewing projects.  Now I not only do the costumes for the musicals at work, but run the after school fashion club, teaching kids to sew!

It’s good to be back – I haven’t been discussing sewing and sewing projects for a long time now and it’ll be nice to get back to it!

–Kelly

Welcome back, Kelly!  I’m glad you made it here.  Please do share your current projects.  I always enjoy reading about the costumes and plays that you work on and put together. :)

That was fun to read a bit more history behind how you got started with the garment sewing! :)  It’s been many years, hasn’t it?  My how time is flying by so quickly!

Carol, I’ll definitely be sharing again this year just as soon as I’ve gotten started.  We’re doing a version of The Importance of Being Earnest, only set in the 1990’s, and with music added.  We wanted to do a public domain show this year rather than pay royalties for a musical, as we had quite a few staff members affected by Hurricane Sandy and we used a lot of our saved funds to help them out.  So I’ll be designing, oddly, in the 1990’s instead of the 1890’s, but it should be fun!

That should be a hoot, Kelly!  Some of those *lovely* 80s fashions crossed over into the 90s and they’re back, all over the stores again.  Who’d have guessed???  LOL!

Wonderful, Kelly!  What a smart idea to do public domain material.  That’s incredibly awesome the funds you had could go towards staff members who were affected by Hurricane Sandy, I am touched to hear that news.

Looking forward to seeing the progress begin. :)

Glad you’re back, Kelly!  I love how to see how many of us “old-timers” are back on the S&S forum now, and I look forward to seeing your projects!

Happy sewing,

Welcome back Kelly.  I’ve enjoyed watching your shows progress – and at lightening speed!   I can’t wait to see what you do for costumes  this year.  Good luck!
