Salutation, all!  I’m Beth, physically writing to you from the not-at-all-sunny-today Puget Sound region, and metaphorically wandering over from mid-century costume land (if only to get a break from sewing petticoats). I’ve been intrigued by the earlier 19th century styles for a while, and have finally decided to take the plunge (ok, I found a nice dress length of fabric that I want to play with…).

i am also new and am originally from your area of the world.  What does your dress length fabric look like?

Hi, tawny!

The fabric I have in mind is very light-weight cotton: white ground, with medium-spaced dark floral sprigs.  The motif may not be perfectly period, I think it’s close enough for a first try, and should look pretty when made up.  I have the Simplicity version of the Sense and Sensibility day-dress, and now just need to get the underthings made so I can get started on the dress.
