I got a couple of notes from forum members saying they were having difficulty accessing the board–and even that the whole site was seizing up (wonky images on front page, etc.).

I tracked down the culprit…ME. Apparently, I accidentally clicked a “Theme Update” button in my site’s dashboard, which I have striven not to do for the past year, since I customized the theme with my own colors and such and knew the automatic update would mess those up! However, there was no going back to the older theme, so I’ve spent a couple of hours fixing all the images and trying to track down the loading problem. It looks like it was a matter of the images being incorrectly sized for the front page slider, but I do want to make sure.

The site (and forum) are running fine and up-to-speed for me on Safari and Chrome. If you are having difficulties on any browser, please delete your history files (cache’), completely shut down the browser, then reopen. If you still have troubles after that, please post a note here, telling me exactly what happens and which browser you are using (and version, if you’re on IE).

Thanks, ladies, and I do apologize for creating a mess!

Warmly,

Jennie

PS – I am resizing all the thumbnails on my site (over 3,000 images), which will take several hours, so if you find the site running slowly before 9am EST, try again after that point and see what happens. Thanks!

Well, things are looking better, Jennie, but I’m still having issues with the reply box only showing one line of writing at a time. :P

I’m going to try and post a picture and see if that’s still working.

Carol…looks like it worked! :)

Well. that’s some progress! I do have the tech guy logging in to look directly at the script and find out why the forum is loading so slowly for some people and not loading fully for others.

If it’s helpful, bookmark ** you don’t have permission to see this link ** in case the menu goes bonkers on you again. But it sounds like the menu is no longer the problem?

Warmly,

Jennie

Poor Jennie! It all seems to be working fine for me now.

But I hate the trial and error involved in trying to load photos. Please advise what is the best file size for pics. I am camera and computer illiterate so have to spend time making all my pics smaller, then trying and failing to load, then making smaller again!

Please, someone tell me a good formula! In words of one syllable!!!!

Frances

Hi, Frances!

In general, keeping the maximum width or height should be kept to 800 pixels. I don’t know what system you’re on (Mac or Windows), but if I double-click to open a full-sized photo on my computer, I can make a copy, then reduce the size of the copy.

Hope this helps!

Warmly,

Jennie

ooh I’ve got a full reply box now. And the board appears to be running faster. WIN-WIN! :)

Updates are such a pain!

Thank you! :)

Scratch that. Actually I get a full reply box on the FIRST thread I comment on and the one line on the others. That should make your tech guy scratch his head…

Okay, that’s just bizarre, Janel! Will see what the techies have to say about it. You still on Chrome? If so, which version. When I use Chrome, I don’t get a truncated reply box….

Thanks!

Cheers,

Jennie

I specialize in bizarre. Sorry.

I’m running Chrome Version 31.0.1650.63 m It claims that’s the latest one.

I haven’t tried it in I.E. Been a bit busy this week running back and forth to NYC. ;)

Thanks for trying to work it out!

O.K. I can get on to the message board, but I cannot reply to anything, except by this method – quoting the previous comment! Still have to get my geek to look at it, but it’s the end of school term activities and they are both busy – well, that’s their excuse!

Wacky! I’ll see what tech support can make of the truncated reply box in different browsers. Or having to quote in order to reply.

Thanks, ladies!

And just in case — I just updated to the newest version of Wordpress and noticed it changed the look of my reply box. Has it fixed any of your problems, ladies?

Warmly,

Jennie

Frances,

When I load pictures now, I first put my picture up on Photobucket, then I take “Direct” link that is provided and use that to put in the thread by way of the photo icon.  It used to be a different link, I think it was the “HTML” link, but now it’s the “Direct” link.  I used to be able to upload from my computer, but I haven’t tried that in ages at it would give me such grief with this board.

I hope that’s easy enough to understand.  If not, please let me know and I’ll try to explain better.

By the way, I am still able to approve posts, in spite of the “Add Reply” not working!

Meh. We still can’t figure out why the full reply box doesn’t load for some of you. Carol and Vesna, which browser/version are you using?

Thanks,

Jennie
