Olivia's Regency Birthday Dress

IMG_8867.jpg

Hi Jennie,This was a fun dress to make for Olivia. I used the Girls’ Regency Dress pattern. The dress is made out of silk noil with the lace overlay. Olivia’s favourite colour these days is red. J She asked for a doll cake to match her new dress and she asked for a Regency dress…so fun…how could I say anything but, “yes”. ;) With Olivia growing so much these days, I had to grade up the pattern to about a size 12/14. I was able to build in some growing room at the back and with the length and saved a bit of extra fabric to add on, when the time comes. This is the first time I have made her a birthday dress and purchased fabric for it, instead of taking from my stash. Olivia's favourite colour has become red, since a dear lady has come into her life. ;) It’s the first birthday dress I have made where I actually purchased her fancy fabrics, rather than take from my stash. Not the ‘inexpensive’ dress. ;) Oh well, that’s OK to do every once in awhile. The doll had to have a matching dress. :)Thanks for the great pattern. Grading it up was easy and it turned out well. I was able to give Olivia a little extra room in it, with a plan for her growing. I left enough fabric at the back to move the buttons and I will gather up the lace overlay, on each side, exposing the dress underneath. I have some extra fabric to add a hem facing, and I can let out the hem. So...I am hoping we get more than a year out of the dress.Blessings to you,Carol

Little Olivia has grown up from toddlerhood in the Show and Tell, each new dress more amazing than the last, thanks to her mom, Carol! Beautiful work, and what a special birthday cake to go with the dress!
