Emily's Ethereal Wedding Gown

Dear Mrs Chancey,Thank you so much for your wonderful patterns! Enclosed are photographs of my wedding gown, made with the Titanic Tea Gown pattern, and my sister's Maid of Honour dress, made with the Elegant Lady's Closet Wrap Dress.I have always loved Regency fashions as well as those of the early 1900's. When wedding gown time came around my mother designed a beautiful dress that combined the 'look' of both eras (not shooting for historical accuracy, just the general look/feel!). She used your pattern as a base and used design elements from a cotillion dress that appeared in the July/August 2008 issue of Sew Beautiful magazine. The dress is made of silk dupioni; the bodice is trimmed in English netting lace (that we found in ONE heirloom sewing shop in the tri-state area!) with vintage tatting at the seams; Mama added scattered silk ribbon flowers and pearls to dress it up a little more. We made some alterations to the pattern: we omitted the layers and added a fuller skirt; and we shortened the sleeves to allow for the lace edging. The result was the wedding dress of my dreams; I love everything about it.My sister is a very simple girl; she prefers a more tailored look and requested that her bridesmaid dress be 'NOT fancy!' So we used the wrap dress pattern in plain pale green silk dupioni with no extra trimmings. The dress is very 'simple elegant' and looked beautiful on her (one lady said 'She looks like a Rembrandt painting!).The patterns were a dream to work with; and I might add, my dress was very comfortable throughout the wedding and reception. Thanks so much for providing patterns that are beautiful, old-fashioned and modest! The last two photos are detail shots of the wedding gown bodice (front and back).~Emily U.P.S. Emily, this has to be my favorite wedding gown from one of my patterns--ever! It is absolutely stunning. I love how your mother used all the heirloom touches to make this such a vintage knockout. And your sister looks utterly wonderful in her silk crossover gown! Simply amazing work all 'round. Thank you for sharing!
