Georgian Era patterns in the works!

If you've followed S&S Patterns over on Facebook, then you've probably seen this coming for a while, as I took a poll to see which fashion era people would like to see in patterns next. The 1780s won out, hands-down, though the 1930s came in a close second. Funny how this works out, but a dear friend of mine asked my girls to be flowergirls in her wedding this spring and wanted to know if I'd make them Georgian Era dresses. Nothing like a project to light a fire under me to create a new pattern!I had enjoyed studying real 1780s gowns during my last trip to England, so I pulled out all my photographs and dove into my fashion bookshelf to study up on pattern pieces in Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion I, as well as in Nancy Bradfield and Norah Waugh. The result is this new girls' pattern, which literally came together in one day--the fastest I've ever worked. It just went together like a dream! I've made model dresses for both of my daughters and am now finishing up their flowergirl dresses. I hope to have the pattern drafted out and ready to sell this summer for girls' sizes 1-14, so stay tuned! And, yes, there is a matching ladies' pattern in the works, too!
